White after Labor Day? It’s the age-old fashion rule that was drilled into me as a child growing up in the South, but is it really a fashion faux pas in 2026?
I chatted with fashion stylist and creative director Chelsea Volpe, who shared that “white can actually look more luxurious in fall and winter — it’s all about shifting the fabrication and styling.”
To ensure your white pieces still feel seasonally appropriate into fall and winter, Volpe recommends investing in “substantial, tactile fabrics” like cashmere, suede, and corduroy. Pro tip: You can even bring more summery styles into fall by anchoring bright white with darker hues like burgundy or chocolate brown.
Dokotoo Stretch Wide-Leg Cream Jeans
I specifically inquired about white denim, in particular, as they’re arguably one of the more divisive styles to wear after Labor Day, but Volpe says they’re “100 percent” still in play. “White denim is seasonless now,” she adds. “The trick is making the rest of the outfit unmistakably fall.”
Skip lightweight and distressed styles for a “more structured pair,” like this wide-leg pick, to ensure an autumnal feel. Need outfit inspo? Volpe recommends styling a pair of white jeans with a chunky knit sweater and suede loafers or a leather jacket and boots, for a look that’s less summer and more “quiet luxury with a little edge.”

Suuksess Cashmere Blend Short Sleeve Sweater
Knits are a safe way to wear white year-round, without risking looking too summery. Immediately post-Labor Day, it will probably still be too warm to pull out thick sweaters, like the chunky knits Volpe recommends. Amid still-warm transitional weather, you can test the sweater-weather waters with this cooler, short-sleeve alternative. Plus, Volpe specifically highlighted ivory cashmere as one of her “fall MVPs.”
This cashmere-blend option is like the polished version of a basic white T-shirt that is lightweight enough to wear now and layer later.

Dream Paris Loafers
Black shoes are a safe option for the cooler months, but cream loafers or ballet flats can serve as a fresh alternative, per Volpe. This classic style is also a great way to transform summer-leaning pieces into a fall-forward outfit. An “off-white loafer feels inherently autumnal and takes away that ‘Am I wearing my summer wardrobe in October?’ feeling,” she explains.
This easy swap highlights Volpe’s philosophy that “you don’t necessarily need a completely new wardrobe every season — sometimes you just need to change the supporting cast.” Plus, this style is comfortable enough to wear again and again thanks to its built-in arch support and plush insoles.
More Stylist-Approved White Shoes
TLDR; Yes, you can (and should!) wear white after Labor Day. As Volpe puts it: “If something looks intentional, fits beautifully and makes you feel great, the calendar doesn’t get the final say.” Break away from dated fashion rules, and shop more stylish-approved pieces to add to your fall wardrobe in the divisive hue below.

My Real Father Was the Reason Robert Took Daniel—And He’s Still Alive
Three seconds after Lena’s voicemail ended, Anna said, “I know who Claire’s father is.” Everyone turned toward her. I felt Daniel’s hand tighten around mine. “What did you say?” Anna didn’t look at me. She looked at Marianne. And Marianne suddenly looked terrified. “You promised me,” Marianne whispered. Anna shook her head. “No more promises.” I stepped between them. “You both know?” Marianne closed her eyes.

Episode 5 — She Was There the Night Laura Died
My daughter called me at 7:14 that evening. Her first words were: “Mom, don’t tell Dad I called you.” I stood in the hallway outside Thomas Mercer’s room, still trying to understand what we had just discovered. Laura had written that Eleanor tampered with her car. But Laura had not driven that car afterward. Thomas had driven Laura to the bus station. Yet an hour later, police found Laura dead inside her own car. Now Sophie was telling me that Diane Mercer—the wife Thomas had cheated on

Episode 8 — The Last Secret Eleanor Took to Her Grave
Richard had just told Michael that Arthur’s name had been removed from an old hospital record. For several seconds, Michael said nothing. Then he asked the only question that mattered. “Are you my father or not?” Richard looked away. “I told you. I believed I was.” “That isn’t an answer.” “It’s the only one I have.” Michael stood so quickly his chair scraped across the floor. “You let me come here thinking you knew.” “I thought I did.” “For forty-nine years?” Richard lowered his eyes

The DNA Report Said My Husband and I Were Related—Then I Saw Where the Samples Came From
“The report says we’re related.” Daniel’s words stayed in my ear. I was still standing beside Lena at the bus station. “How related?” He didn’t answer. “Daniel.” “First cousins.” My stomach turned. Lena grabbed my arm. “That’s impossible.” Daniel heard her. “Apparently not.” “Read the laboratory name,” Lena said.

My Mother Ran Away to Protect Me—Then I Learned What My Father Planned for My Husband
The second paragraph of my biological mother’s letter said: Robert was going to take Daniel away. And Thomas helped him prepare the papers. I stopped reading. My father was still on speakerphone. “Dad.” Silence.

My Father Admitted He Brought My Husband Into This Family—But Why?
My father called back eleven minutes later and said, “Claire, before I tell you anything, get Daniel out of that house.” I looked across the dusty bedroom. Daniel was still holding the hospital bracelet with his biological mother’s name on it. “Why?” “Because you’re not alone.” Every hair on my arms lifted. I turned toward the hallway. Nothing. “Dad, what are you talking about?” “The house.” “What about it?” “There’s someone else there.” Daniel heard him. He walked toward me. “Put
