Hannah Speirs, an usher for the Texas Rangers known as the “Dancing Queen,” has become a local celebrity thanks to her moves and she’s also helped inspire other people with Down syndrome to pursue their dreams.
“I just love working at the Rangers,” says Speirs, 34, adding that she finds joy in making the fans happy.
Since 2012, Hannah has helped guests find their seats and ensured their experience watching the Major League Baseball team is memorable. Her expert moves in the stands have earned her a spot on the jumbotron countless times — and she even has her own unofficial trading card.
“My heart just bursts all the time, nearly bursts,” mom Charlotte Speirs says of her daughter’s accomplishments. “I’m so proud of her and so happy.”
The young woman’s journey began more than a decade ago, when a tornado struck the nursing home where she worked.
When people asked where she planned to work next, Hannah now famously replied, “I’m gonna work for the Texas Rangers.”
When Hannah’s dad, Kent, told a coworker about his daughter’s aspirations, that led to a call from Jim Sundberg. The former MLB player and executive at the Rangers wanted to meet with Hannah and she was soon hired as an usher in guest relations.
It didn’t take long before she started making a name for herself with her dance moves.

“I love every song,” says Hannah, who especially enjoys moving to “Dancing Queen” by ABBA. She says she still draws inspiration from the 2003 Disney film, The Cheetah Girls, but a lot of what you see from her is original.
“Mostly she does like to make up her own moves,” says Charlotte. “She knows what the crowd likes.”
While Hannah enjoys connecting with the players — her favorite is first baseman Jake Burger, who has a young daughter with Down syndrome — what she loves most is interacting with crowds.
“Hannah brings joy and happiness to each and every shift she works,” says Hannah’s supervisor, Lisa George. “She has such a caring heart and spirit.”

Charlotte says that the event was “really special” for both of them.
“She’ll say, ‘You can live your dreams. Anything you want to do, you can do,’ ” the proud mom recalls.
For Hannah, there’s no better future than continuing to work for the Rangers. The position also helps her feel connected to her eldest brother, Spencer, who died at the age of 30 of a brain tumor, just two years after she began working for the franchise in 2012.

Both Spencer and her other brother, Seth, attended several games with Hannah at Globe Life Field when they were children.
“They were just so proud of her,” says Charlotte. Now, when Hannah dances, she feels connected to Spencer’s memory.
“So, yeah,” Hannah adds, “I always keep on dancing for every game.”
