A woman allegedly stabbed her mother at least 10 times in a Chick-fil-A parking lot in Georgia before driving away.

On Thursday, Aug. 20, the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office shared that a dispute unfolded between a mom, 39, and her 21-year-old daughter, Shyanniah Ma’Ree Johnson, as they were in their vehicle on road trip traveling to Wisconsin.

“The pair exited Interstate 75 and pulled into the Chick-fil-A parking lot, where the altercation escalated while still inside the vehicle,” the sheriff’s department shared in a statement to PEOPLE. “During the altercation, Johnson assaulted her mother, who sustained no less than 10 stab wounds.”

Deputies also said that Johnson sustained an injury to her leg during the incident.

According to 11 Alive, deputies said that the mother ran inside the fast food restaurant after the stabbing occurred.

“Acworth Police officers were inside the restaurant and assisted until an ambulance arrived and transported her to Wellstar Kennestone Hospital,” the sheriff’s office said in a news release.

Deputies went on to share that the daughter left the scene with two children in her vehicle before deputies tracked her down using automated license plate reader data and pulled her over in Whitfield County.

“All we had was a description of the vehicle,” Capt. Jay Baker explained. “We were able to use ALPR technology and Flock technology to get a tag and then reach out to our police partners in the north part of the state. Whitfield County Sheriff’s Office pulled them over and got her in custody.”

The Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office has since told PEOPLE that the two children remain unharmed and are in the custody of the Georgia Division of Family and Children Services (DFCS) in Whitfield County.

Following her arrest, Johnson was transported to Hamilton Medical Center in Dalton and charged with aggravated assault under the Family Violence Act, per the sheriff’s office.

While her mother has since been released from the hospital, Johnson remains hospitalized, receiving treatment for the injury she sustained during the altercation.

The investigation remains ongoing and the sheriff’s office stated that “additional charges are possible as investigators continue to review the circumstances surrounding the incident.”
