The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has issued an update on a white rice recall first announced in April.
Lundberg Family Farms had recalled more than 27,000 packages of its White Jasmine Rice in April over concerns that the product may be contaminated with foreign materials, according to a recent recall notice from the FDA. The product was sold in 2-lb. bags.
The Universal Product Code (UPC) on the affected product is 073416-040281. The affected lot codes are 260201MA with a best-by date of Feb. 1, 2027, and 260202MA with a best-by date of Feb. 2, 2027.
The update noted that the rice was distributed in California, Connecticut, Florida, Illinois, Louisiana, North Carolina, New Hampshire, New York, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Virginia, Washington and Wisconsin. The product is often sold in chains such as Wegmans, Walmart, Target, Whole Foods and Giant.
In a statement to PEOPLE on Aug. 29, a Lundberg Family Farms spokesperson said, “The affected product was removed from store shelves several months ago,” adding, “The incident was isolated to a single production run, and no illnesses were reported from consumption of the affected product.”
The FDA classified the recall as Class II, which involves a product that “may cause temporary or medically reversible adverse health consequences” or for which the likelihood of serious health consequences is remote, per the agency’s website.
A voluntary recall of the same product and lot codes was first announced by Wegmans on April 4, though the specific states affected were not disclosed at the time.
