Before the 17th day of Lindsay Clancy’s closely watched murder trial, hundreds of her supporters gathered outside the courthouse wearing pink clothing.

Clancy is on trial for murder in the January 2023 deaths of her three children, whom she strangled to death in their Duxbury, Mass., home before jumping out of a second-story window in an apparent suicide attempt.

Clancy’s defense acknowledges that she killed the children but argues that she was suffering from postpartum psychosis and was not criminally responsible.

The case has drawn national attention and sparked discussion about postpartum mental health and the treatment of women experiencing psychiatric crises.

On Thursday, Aug. 20, the Boston Globe reported that hundreds of Clancy’s supporters held a rally outside the courthouse before the day’s proceedings, wearing pink.

Pink shirts could also be seen inside the courtroom during the trial.

“It’s become very clear that there is a mental health crisis, and clearly a lot of other women feel the same,” organizer Renee Kimball told the paper. “I think that’s why we’re gathered here today, to show Lindsay the support and the peace that she begged for and didn’t quite get.”

Prosecutors are arguing that Clancy deliberately killed her children and that she was not in a state of psychosis when she strangled them.

In a hearing without the jury present Thursday, Judge William Sullivan said closing arguments could begin Monday or Tuesday, following four weeks of testimony.
