Sandusky, who was an assistant Penn State University, targeted his victims both before and after his 1999 retirement.
The scandal around Sandusky’s abuse had significant fallout at Penn State, including the termination of longtime head football coach Joe Paterno, who allegedly knew about the abuse and didn’t try to stop it. Several top officials at Penn State, including university president Graham Spanier and athletic director Tim Curley, served president sentences after being convicted on child endangerment charges in relation to the case.
