Mass Stabbing at California Casino Leaves 5 Employees Injured, Co-Worker Arrested: Authorities

Five employees were stabbed in the kitchen of a restaurant at California’s Thunder Valley Casino. Joseph Naugle, who also worked at the restaurant, was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder.

Five restaurant workers were stabbed inside a California casino kitchen, and one of their coworkers has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder.

The stabbing took place about 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 19, inside the Dos Coyotes restaurant at Thunder Valley Casino in Lincoln, the Placer County Sheriff’s Office said in an Instagram post.

Deputies arrived within minutes and took a suspect into custody, according to the sheriff’s office — the agency later identified him as Joseph Naugle.

All five victims and Naugle worked at the restaurant, and no casino guests were involved, a Thunder Valley Casino spokesperson told CBS Sacramento. The stabbing occurred in the restaurant’s kitchen, the spokesperson said.

One victim was taken to a hospital with injuries that were not considered life-threatening. The four others were treated at the scene by Thunder Valley Casino EMTs and Cal Fire, according to the sheriff’s office.

None of the five victims’ injuries were considered life-threatening.

A CBS Sacramento camera captured Naugle, who appeared to still be wearing a kitchen apron, being placed into a sheriff’s vehicle.
