Mom of 3 Was Killed in Murder-Suicide After School Drop-Off, Sheriff Says Telling Her Kids Was ‘Heart Wrenching’

A Georgia mother was killed in a murder-suicide shortly after dropping two of her three children off at school.

Nicole Karastury Elliott, 35, was shot in the head outside her home after a dispute with her 36-year-old boyfriend, Andrew Roy Harris, outside Waverly Hall on Monday, Aug. 17.

Harris was found the following day in a room at a Days Inn hotel in Phenix City with a single gunshot wound to the head.

According to Harris County Sheriff Mike Jolley, Elliott was shot after the couple argued the night before over prescription medication belonging to one of her children.

“We heard the voices on the Ring camera where she had yelled, ‘Don’t do it,’” Jolley said at a Tuesday, Aug. 18 press conference. “We heard the gunfire. And then we heard her call his name out. ‘Don’t, don’t do it,’ and called his name out on the Ring camera.”

Jolley said law enforcement officers told her children about their mother’s death.

“To make that notification yesterday to those three kids that their mother is no longer with us was heart-wrenching,” he said. “It’s never an easy thing to do, but when you tell three young kids that their mother is no longer here it’s heartbreaking.”

According to a GoFundMe post, the family had just moved into a new home and the children — ages 14, 10 and 6 — were “so excited to finally have rooms of their own.”

“Nicole was an amazing woman, mother, and friend with a huge heart who was always willing to help anyone in need,” according to the post. “Her family is now left trying to process this heartbreaking tragedy and make sense of a loss that feels impossible to understand.”
