Rebecca Yarros Announces New ‘Fourth Wing’ Graphic Novel Series Coming This Spring

A brand-new graphic novel adaptation of Rebecca Yarros’ beloved romantasy novel Fourth Wing is on its way!

On Thursday, Aug. 27, publisher Ten Speed Graphic announced that Fourth Wing: The Graphic Novel, Volume One — adapted by bestselling author Yarros herself, and illustrated by Italian comic artist Anabel Rossi — is set to be released this April.

According to the publisher, this “immersive adaptation” captures the first half, including chapters 1–22, of Yarros’s bestselling novel, “inviting both devoted fans and new readers into the exhilarating world of Basgiath War College.”

Fourth Wing follows 20-year-old Violet Sorrengail, a young woman forced by her commanding general (“also known as her tough-as-talons mother,” according to a synopsis) to enter the brutal Basgiath War College, where candidates compete to become elite dragon riders.

“When you’re smaller than everyone else and your body is brittle, death is only a heartbeat away ... because dragons don’t bond to ‘fragile’ humans. They incinerate them,” the synopsis continues. “With fewer dragons willing to bond than cadets, most would kill Violet to better their own chances of success. The rest would kill her just for being her mother’s daughter, like Xaden Riorson, the most powerful and ruthless wingleader in the Riders Quadrant. Friends, enemies, lovers. Everyone at Basgiath War College has an agenda ― because once you enter, there are only two ways out: graduate or die.”

The first volume of the graphic novel adaptation “faithfully captures the heart-pounding action and unforgettable romance that made Fourth Wing an international publishing phenomenon,” the publisher adds.

Fourth Wing is the first book in the Empyrean series, which also includes the novels Iron Flame and Onyx Storm. The novel is also to be adapted into a Prime Video TV series.

Ten Speed Graphic also shared on Thursday that it is set to publish six graphic volumes covering the first three books of the Empyrean series, and Fourth Wing, The Graphic Novel: Volume Two is already forthcoming.

The first volume will have numerous editions available, including a deluxe signed edition and retailer exclusive editions at Target, Barnes & Noble, Books-A-Million and Walmart.

Yarros — the #1 New York Times bestselling author is best known for her Empyrean series, which includes Fourth Wing, Iron Flame and Onyx Storm — teased the release of the graphic novel series on social media on Thursday, writing that she was “ecstatic” to share the numerous covers for the first time.
