‘Camp Rock 3’s’ Hudson Stone Shares Best Advice His Famous Parents Ever Gave Him About a Career in Hollywood (Exclusive)

The teen, who plays Desi in Camp Rock 3, is also set to appear in the upcoming Disney+ Mickey Mouse Club revival

Camp Rock 3 star Hudson Stone is sharing the best advice his famous parents ever gave him about a career in Hollywood.

Stone, 14, who is the son of Beverly Hills, 90210 actress Lindsay Price and Australian celebrity chef and TV personality Curtis Stone, chatted with PEOPLE exclusively at the Camp Rock 3 world premiere at The Walt Disney Studio Lot in Burbank, Calif.

During the conversation, the teen shared that his mom, 49, and dad, 50, both urged him to have passions and interests outside of acting — and to make sure that the entertainment industry doesn’t become his “whole world.”

“I think the best piece of advice [was], ‘Make sure you have outlets outside of this,” Stone said.

“They were like, ‘It’s very easy to get stuck into this, and this becomes your whole world and your value and your worth,’ ” he continued.

“That’ll never be the case for me,” he added. “I always have things outside [of acting]. I love to surf. I love to write songs. I love to play guitar. I love to hang out with friends. As long as you’re doing that and you’re staying happy and you’re doing what you do for the right reasons, it doesn’t feel like work to me.”

Stone plays Desi in the latest installment of the Disney+ franchise, the easygoing, musically gifted brother of Sage (played by Liamani Segura), who unexpectedly becomes one of her rivals in the movie’s central competition.

“I love Desi’s character,” Stone said when talking to PEOPLE about the character. “He’s so much like me in real life. It’s a lot of fun.”

Stone additionally said that he has taken to thinking about acting projects like “going to summer.”

“So as long as I’m doing that, I’m going to feel good,” he explained.

However, the teen, who is slated to costar in the recently-announced Mickey Mouse Club revival on Disney+, reiterated that he still takes his work extremely seriously.

“I want to take my acting seriously. I’m going to work on my craft — work on myself,” he said.

“I fell in love with [acting] … I fell in love with all the different parts of [the] art. It’s about being creative. It’s about bringing your sense to it and tapping into the character,” he added.

The actor’s parents, along with his younger brother, Emerson, 11, were all in attendance at the Camp Rock 3 premiere, a gesture which he said made him “emotional.”

“They’ve led me through every step of the way and always been supportive, and I can’t do it without them,” he told PEOPLE, before adding that he feels deep gratitude for his entire family.
