Darius Rucker recalled how he got a “shout-out” in a Notorious B.I.G. song.

In a Monday, Aug. 19 Instagram Reel, the Hootie & the Blowfish frontman appeared to be on a photo shoot where Biggie’s 1997 hit “Mo Money Mo Problems” could be heard in the background.

As Rucker, 60, is posing in a navy button-down shirt with his guitar, he can be heard telling someone off-camera, “Y’all know we get a shout-out in this song, right?”

The “Hold My Hand” artist was referring to the lyric “Stay humble / Stay low / Blow like Hootie.”

“Blow up like Hootie & the Blowfish. Stay humble and stay low,” Rucker adds.

He then notes that it’s one of his “claims to fame.”

“This first record is one of my four favorite records of all time. This record came out I heard it driving down the road and I had to pull over to the side,” says Rucker.

The “Wagon Wheel” performer “freaked out” at the time.

“I went to the record store to get the CD single,” said Rucker. “I went, ‘Oh my God, he said Hootie’ [and] ran to the boys.”

In a 2015 interview with The Dan Patrick Show, Rucker opened up about how the band ended up getting name-checked on Biggie’s track.

Rucker recalled meeting the Notorious B.I.G. (real name Christopher Wallace) at the Grammys.

“He’s rolling through and some really hot girl walks by, and one of his boys was like, ‘I’ll pay her.’ Just as a joke, I go. ‘Man, I’m not paying for it,’” he said at the time.

Rucker added, “We laughed, and then his next record, he’s got a line on it that says, ‘Stay humble, stay low, blow like Hootie/True pimp n----- spend no dough on the booty.’ Great line.”

Per MTV via Entertainment Weekly, Hootie & the Blowfish credited Mase, who raps the verse, with the line.

“And Mase gave us props,” said Rucker.
