Former cast member Reece Weaver, now set to debut on Broadway, left the squad after three seasons in a surprise exit
The Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders are heading back to TV screens in 2027! On Thursday, Aug. 20, Netflix announced that the beloved series, America’s Sweethearts: Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders, which chronicles the lives of members of the cheerleading squad as they audition for the elite team, had been renewed for a fourth season. On Instagram, veteran members of the squad announced the news while playing “This or That.” Each veteran — including Charly Barbie, Camille Sturdivant and Sophy Laufer — each had a chance to blindly select a card bearing choices between iconic DCC-related things like ACDC’s “Thunderstruck” and Prince’s “Baby, I’m a Star” (Barbie chose “Thunderstruck”) or a hair flip versus a high kick (Laufer chose a high kick).
When beloved veteran Anna Kate Demmer stepped up to choose her card, her choices were “Meet Timothée Chalamet” and “Announce S4 of America’s Sweethearts: Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders.” Initially, Demmer pulled the Timothée card — to which she replied: “Well, I’ve already done that!” Then, she pulled the second card and appeared surprised to learn of the show’s renewal on the spot. According to a press release from Netflix, the upcoming season will follow a “fresh batch” of rookies and will see fan-favorite veterans return to the audition rooms. Also rejoining the cast are the squad’s senior director Kelli Finglass and its head choreographer Judy Trammell. “Each new season is another opportunity to showcase the extraordinary talent, dedication and individuality of our team,” Kelli Finglass said in a release. “We’re proud to continue to share their stories and artistry with audiences, inspiring the next generation of young performers all over the world to dream big and pursue their passions.” “Every season we get a little further past the performance and closer to the person,” added executive producer Greg Whiteley in the press release. “What excites me is more than just who makes the team — it’s what these women are willing to explore and let viewers see along their journey. That kind of trust takes years and I’m grateful we get another season to tell their stories.”
America’s Sweethearts: Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders is executive produced by Whiteley and Adam Leibowitz of One Potato Productions; Andrew Fried and Dane Lillegard of Boardwalk Pictures; Ross M. Dinerstein and Rebecca Evans of Campfire Studios. Last season of the show ended on the bombshell news that beloved veteran Reece Weaver was leaving the team after just three seasons.
While many DCC veterans opt to stay with the squad for five seasons, Reece, who had become a beloved member of the squad following her introduction to the masses in the first season of Sweethearts, decided that her time had come to an end earlier than many had expected.

“I think after the show came out, I had to learn really quickly to adapt to just a very new reality of life and to be okay with change and fluid moments,” she told PEOPLE in June. “I have really appreciated that and I’m excited to not know what’s in the future, but to be excited and to be on this adventure.” Since her time with the DCC has come to a close, Weaver said she was “grateful” for the way that the show has “filled” her cup over the last few years, and spoke to some of the points that internet denizens have mentioned they believe might be behind the cheerleader’s shocking exit. She’s now set to make her Broadway debut in Chicago as Roxie Hart on Sept. 7.
While a premiere date for season 4 has not been announced, season 3 of America’s Sweethearts: Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders is streaming on Netflix.
