Rosie O’Donnell Shares Supportive ‘Welcome Home’ Note from Barbra Streisand amid Her Return to TV

Rosie O’Donnell has gotten a very important person’s seal of approval.

The Jimmy Kimmel Live! guest host, 64, shared a note she received congratulating her on her return to TV from a longtime favorite — Barbra Streisand. In an Instagram post on Thursday, Aug. 20, she posted a screenshot of the message, which opened, “Message from Barbra Streisand.”

“From Barbra- It’s good to see you back on TV! Welcome home! Barbra,” the legendary 84-year-old singer wrote.

In the caption, O’Donnell gushed, “Be still my heart - she is a class act - what a way to finish my week on Kimmel!!!”

O’Donnell was a loud and proud fan of Streisand during her time on her own talk show, The Rosie O’Donnell Show, which aired for 6 seasons from 1996 through 2002.

In her 2007 memoir Celebrity Detox, O’Donnell wrote about how she shared her love of Streisand’s music with her late mom, who died of cancer when the entertainer was only 10.

“I know two things she loved, show tunes and Streisand. [She] adored Barbra, and so did I. While other kindergartners were bringing in kaleidoscopes and turtles for show-and-tell, I was belting ‘Don’t Rain on My Parade’ with gusto, off-key, complete with dance moves,” O’Donnell recalled.

“I would memorize every Streisand record, and when my mother was cooking dinner, I would put on a show in my kitchen. ‘Second Hand Rose’ and ‘Marty the Martian.’ She would laugh, my mom. I loved it.”

O’Donnell will conclude her guest-hosting stint on Thursday, Aug. 20. She follows fellow guest hosts Tiffany Haddish, Colman Domingo, Ike Barinholtz and Anthony Anderson while Kimmel remains on his annual summer break.

She previously told PEOPLE that she was “happy that he asked me” and that she admired Kimmel’s “tenacity and strength.”
