Sons of Anarchy creator Kurt Sutter clears the air surrounding Charlie Hunnam‘s latest project.

On Wednesday, Aug. 19, FX announced its new meta-thriller series Legends, in which the Sons of Anarchy gang will reunite for an epic adventure. The forthcoming series was developed by Hunnam, 46, who played Jax Teller in the biker drama.

A day later, Sutter — who served as showrunner and executive producer for all seven seasons of Sons of Anarchy — took to social media to answer questions surrounding his involvement with Legends.

“I just wanted to comment. I know the news about Charlie’s show hit today, and I’ve been getting some queries about it,” he said in a video shared to Instagram on Thursday, Aug. 20. “I just want to say my piece. I’m not involved with Legends at all, nor should I be.”

Sutter explained that the new series has “nothing” to do with the characters or the story he created. “It is really about the show and the legacy of the show. And quite frankly, there are thousands of people who are responsible for that legacy,” he added.

Legends follows the cast of Sons of Anarchy, who star as themselves, as they reunite at a fan convention. There, “the line between life and art blurs as the fractured brotherhood finds itself up against a real-world threat more dangerous than anything they ever faced in their show,” according to an official logline.

The stars headed along for the wild ride are Hunnam, Ron Perlman (Clay), Sutter’s wife Katey Sagal (Gemma), Maggie Siff (Tara), Mark Boone Junior (Bobby), Tommy Flanagan (Chibs), Kim Coates (Tig) and Theo Rossi (Juice). Jonathan Groff will serve as Legends’ showrunner.

As for his thoughts on Legends, Sutter said he gave Hunnam “my full blessing” and is excited for fans to see what’s in store for this new chapter of Sons of Anarchy.

“I just want folks to know that Charlie came to me early on when he was in the process of pitching this to the network to ask for my blessing, knowing that the IP would probably not be able to be invoked for various reasons of legalese stuff. And I gave Charlie my full blessing.”

He continued, “I wish nothing but the best for him in this project. My wife is in the project. I have nothing but love for John Landgraf and the folks at FX who have been so good to me, so generous.”

Sutter endorsed Hunnam’s project, urging fans to “watch this motherfucker” once it’s released.

“I’ve taken a peek at the script that was perhaps just lying on my wife’s knitting table,” he teased. “And it’s so well done, and I think you’ll dig it. And that’s my two cents. I love Charlie to death, and I think you will have mad love for this project as well.”
