2 Men Arrested After Influencer Sonia Bellina’s Dead Body Found Burned in Vineyard

Two men were detained in connection with the death of influencer Sonia Bellina, though one has since been released.

On Aug. 12, a farm worker discovered a burned body lying between rows of vines in a French vineyard — later identified by prosecutors as Bellina, a 29-year-old TikTok creator who had over 260,000 followers and was known for her lip-sync videos.

In its Aug. 19 statement, the Nîmes Prosecutor’s Office said that it had arrested two men “due to evidence suggesting their direct or indirect involvement in the incident,” but later shared in a statement the next day that one of the two individuals had since been released from custody.

Prosecutors also said that an extension was granted on Aug. 20 to keep the remaining individual in custody until Aug. 21, at which point “further information will be released.”

After Bellina’s body was discovered, a regional police unit opened a murder investigation, prosecutors said in an Aug. 12 statement. An autopsy was scheduled for Aug. 13, though details have not been released.

Prosecutors said that Bellina was identified through DNA evidence.

Bellina’s family had previously said they believed the body was hers, telling local outlet Midi Libre that the internet personality went missing on Aug. 10, two days before her remains were found, and that Bellina’s breast implants and ring matched the body that was discovered.

“She said she was going out one evening, but she never came home,” Bellina’s sister said during a live TikTok broadcast on Aug. 17, per France 3. “On Wednesday morning, they found her body in Saint-Gilles.”

The sister also told Midi Libre that they had planned a party for her 30th birthday, which was on Sept. 30, claiming that instead, “She ran into the wrong guy at the wrong time.”

Bellina’s sister also slammed those making negative comments about her online, claiming that people were “spouting nonsense.”

“It’s harassment — some are even saying she deserved what happened to her,” she said. “We ask people to respect our grief and let our sister rest in peace.”
